The Chipography is a salty snack food rabbit hole that grows every week.
We've profiled over 90 potato chip brands, from the very large to the very small. Each page features a link to the brand's website (or where to buy the chips), the flavors offered, and information on their geographic whereabouts.
After reviewing our online traffic patterns, I wanted to share the most frequently searched brands on the Chipography. Because who doesn't love lists? Especially top five lists?
Here, in reverse order, are what have been our most popular brands: 5. Peerless This Northwestern Indiana brand has a very small sales footprint and limited internet presence. Very little exists outside of Yelp reviews and a few news articles. 4. Door County If this Facebook page is any indication, the brand appears to have gone through a redesign and relaunch last month. Distribution appears to be ramping up within Wisconsin. However the doorcountypotatochips.com domain offers no details. 3. Utz It's interesting that two of our most searched brands have little to no online presence. That's not the case with Utz, which is one of the largest chippers on the east coast. 2. J. Higgs I was really surprised to see how frequently folks search for J Higgs chips on our site. J Higgs is the house brand for Save-a-Lot, a large discount grocery store chain in the U.S. 1. The Flavor Mill Number one is The Flavor Mill, and it's not close. Search terms and visits for the page outweigh any other brand by a 2 to 1 margin. Why?
The Flavor Mill is one of the brands run by Herr's Snack Foods. Very little details exist on their website regarding distribution, however they can be found as far west as Illinois.
So what makes these brands stand out from the pack? Is it the lack of information? Sheer curiosity? I encourage you to share in the comments.
