Today we're reviewing our first onion-flavored chip, from another boutique brand. Deep River Snacks is a Connecticut-based snacker with a bend towards "doing right in everything they do".
Positives:
I guess they're better for you? They're cooked in sunflower oil but have the texture and crunch of normal chips. You don't know that your eating something healthier. They're incredibly tasty. The right amount of onion and sweetness, without being too much in either direction. The packaging looks professional
Negatives:
Not a huge fan of lavender-colored chip bags. It looks like a bag of cough drops. It's not a huge portion for the money. The bag was $3, but well under the quantity for a brand like Ruffles or Jays.
Questions:
Can you think of anything other than Clark Griswold when you hear the words Deep River? "There she is kids. The Mighty Mississippi. The Ol' Miss. The Ol' Maid." Why Maui onions? On my honeymoon in Hawaii, I don't reflect on eating onions on the beach. But then again we were Kauai. Maybe the onions aren't as special there.
Verdict:
I highly recommend this chip, and would buy it again at full price.
